Alisa Curlee, pianist, enjoys an active schedule as a performer and teacher in the Rochester, NY, area. Currently on the piano faculty of Roberts Wesleyan College, Ms. Curlee has experience with a vast range of ages and abilities. She has taught at the Hochstein Community Music School as well as having been a teaching assistant at the Eastman School. She has been a frequent adjudicator for local competitions and is a member of the New York Federation of Music. As a performer, Ms. Curlee has been a frequent collaborator with musicians from the Rochester Philharmonic and faculty members of the Eastman School of Music, appearing in recital series, conferences, and radio broadcasts across the state. She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Accompanying and Chamber Music at the Eastman School, where her primary teacher is Jean Barr. She also received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from the same institute, having studied with Barry Snyder and Thomas Schumacher. During her studies at Eastman, Ms. Curlee was the recipient of several honors, including the 2007 Barbara Koeng Award and the 2008 Excellence in Accompanying Award. She was a prizewinner at the 2006 Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition, and has held Graduate Awards in both studio accompanying and opera coaching. She has participated in master classes for artists such as Benita Valente, Hakan Hagegard, Christian Gerhaher, Lee Hoiby, David Jolley, and Yo-Yo Ma, and benefited from instruction at the Aspen Festival and Johannesen International School of the Arts in Victoria, Canada. Ms. Curlee is also a passionate performer of new music, and has premiered many works.
